Göknil Gümüs Sungurtekin was born at 1977 in Istanbul/ Turkey. She is a Turkish expressionist artist who lives and works in Istanbul.
Göknil Gümüs Sungrtekin was born on July 23, 1977 in Beylerbeyi, a district on the Bosphorus coast of Istanbul, at Yalıboyu Caddesi No: 18. The artist, who started painting at an early age, was born on the advice of a neighbor aunt who discovered her talent for painting before primary school, and with the efforts of her mother. She participated in the art trainings given to children in the palaces and pavilions in Istanbul, which were once opened by the municipality, and came 2nd in the competition opened as a result of this training.
Her desire to be a painter when she grew up appeared in her at that age, when she met a painter for an assignment given at school at that time. Gümüs Sungurtekin, who first completed Beylerbeyi Primary School and then the middle and high school departments of the same school, attended the Mimar Sinan Academy and Marmara University painting courses and Beylerbeyi art course for two years. She won the talent exams of three universities abour art she attended in 1996. She preferred to study at the Painting Department of the Marmara University Fine Arts Faculty, from the Painting Department of Mimar Sinan University, Marmara University Atatürk Education Faculty, Marmara University Fine Arts Faculty Painting Department. While continuing her workshop studies during her university years, she also started to train students and started to sell and exhibit her paintings. The artist, who participated in group exhibitions and workshops inside and outside the faculty, graduated from this faculty in 2000 with a good grade.
Göknil Gümüs Sungurtekin, who has stepped into the professional art world since 2000. Göknil Gümüs Sungurtekin opened her first workshop in Istanbul's Moda district in 2001. This workshop was a workshop she shared with many of her friends.
In 2001-2002, she started to take part in theatrical decor design of the theater play "Dragon Game", group workshops and competitive exhibitions in prestigious galleries such as Boursan Art Gallery and Is Sanat. And then she assisted the painter Komet,She was the exhibition assistant and catalog of the '' Complicité '' organized by the artist Komet. Than she realized the first big wall mosaic " Toro " with her team of artist friends.
The artist, who opened her first personal exhibition ''Anlık '' in 2002, established the Fogart Art Course with the artist Fatih Sungurtekin in their workshop in Galata in 2003. The artist continued to teach in this course in Galata until 2007 and then in Ortaköy/Istanbul until 2014, giving art lessons to dozens of students with the Fogart Art Studio , which has achieved a success rate of 90%, the artist has been the teacher of many young artist candidates who were deemed worthy of honor student status in Turkey and abroad in the Fogart.
In the meantime, she continued to open personal and group exhibitions. Göknil Gümüş Sungurtekin wrote the Master's Thesis named "Expressionism in Contemporary Turkish Painting", with the consultancy of Prof. Dr. Cevat Demir, in 2005. She graduated from Marmara University Fine Arts Institute Painting Department with a master's degree in 2005.
Göknil Gümüş Sungurtekin has won Navy Artist Prize and first prize from the contest by DKK, Turkish Naval Command in 2004. With her own request and with the special invitation of Navy Commander Yener Karahanoglu. She has participated in ''2005 Old Salt Naval Operation'' as a naval artist and honorary major. She has watched and taken photos of the naval operation during twelve days on the Salih Reis frigates. When She come back her studio in Galata, she has added manpower concept in her impression and She has painted her art works. Her navy paintings were in Göknil Gümüs Private Exhibition exhibited at Harbiye Military Museum in Istanbul in 2006. She produced artworks with the concept of "man power" in 2007 with the invitation of 22nd Turkish Navy Commander Metin Ataç. Navy Artist Göknil Gümüş Sungurtekin' s Naval Artist 30 works she produced between 2004-2007 are exhibited perpetually in the halls, museums and archives of Turkish Naval Forces Command.
Goknil Gumus Sungurtekin and Fatih Sungurtekin maked painting of portrays period portraits in "Hunting Season" directed by Yavuz Turgul starring famous actors such as Çetin Tekindor, Sener Sen, Cem Yılmaz, Okan Yalabık. Göknil Gümüs Sungurtekin's installations and artworks were included as interior decorations in director Turgut Yasalar's film “Sis ve Gece” (Fog and Night) , which was adapted into a movie from Ahmet Ümit's book of the same name, starring master actors such as Ugur Polat, Selma Ergeç ,Ilyas Salman, Yetkin Dikinciler and Mehmet Güleryüz. Many of the artist's artworks were also seen in TV series such as "Remember Dear" and "Silver".
The artist has participated in manyart donation events with their Art for Good Project , charity auctions and donation events in the country and abroad, as well as in online art environments, with her works of art and contributed to the art.The artist, who participated in many art auctions, exhibitions and workshops, established the "Art for Good Project" with the artist Fatih Sungurtekin in order to present her art to the benefit of the children of the world in the name of more "goodness". Individually, both in Turkey and in the world, they supported many children and families in need of help by donating their income from their arts.
